Venture capitalist Blake Masters won the Republican US Senate primary in Arizona for the right to face Democratic Senator Mark Kelly in November in what will be one of the most closely watched races to help determine party control of the upper chamber.

Masters defeated solar power company founder Jim Lamon, Attorney General Mark Brnovich and two other candidates with about 39% of the GOP vote, according to the Associated Press. Masters was boosted by former President Donald Trump’s endorsement and $15 million donated to a super political action committee by Masters’s former boss, billionaire entrepreneur Peter Thiel.
