Major Philippine Earthquake Kills 4, Triggers Landslides

Updated on

A magnitude-7 earthquake, the strongest to hit the Philippines inland in nearly a decade, killed at least four people as it triggered landslides on the nation’s largest and most populous island.

At least 60 were hurt, mostly in Abra province, where the tremor originated Wednesday morning, Local Government Secretary Benjamin Abalos Jr. said at a televised briefing. The quake damaged at least 173 buildings, he said.
