Countries that took a hard line on Covid-19 at the start of the pandemic are proving reluctant to enforce mandates again, even as cases mount.
Rather than issue directives, health authorities in Australia and New Zealand are advising their populations to wear masks in public again. And while some Australian states are recommending people work from home if they can, others haven’t weighed in even as new omicron sub-variants push hospitalizations in the nation of 25 million to near a record.
