President Emmanuel Macron called on the French to reduce their energy consumption to avoid “a difficult” winter, as Europe grapples with its worst energy supply crunch in decades.

Russia is using gas exports as “a weapon of war,” Macron said in a televised interview on Thursday to mark Bastille Day. He said that Moscow could cut off gas entirely and that he would present a national plan to prepare for that possibility, without offering details.
