European Stocks Fall to January 2021 Low on Recession Worries

Updated on

European equities dropped to the lowest since January 2021 as investors fretted over recession risks ahead of the earnings season, which will show whether corporate profit growth can withstand surging inflation and supply constraints.

The Stoxx Europe 600 fell 2.1% by the close in London. Energy and miners led the declines among sectors amid growing risks of an economic slowdown, while more defensive sectors like real estate and healthcare outperformed.
