Leonardo Del Vecchio’s right-hand man was appointed to succeed the Italian billionaire as chairman of the eye-wear empire he created from scratch.

EssilorLuxottica SA’s board announced the decision on Tuesday, a day after Del Vecchio passed away at age 87. Francesco Milleri is already chief executive officer of the group and had been the Luxottica founder’s closest aide for years.
