Hong Kong reported a total of 1,917 new daily Covid cases, health officials said Sunday, continuing a steady uptick in infections days ahead of a planned visit by President Xi Jinping to mark the city’s 25th anniversary of Chinese rule.

Authorities said at a briefing that 118 of the new infections were imported, with the rest locally acquired. The city reported no new new Covid-related deaths nor infected patients that are in critical condition.
