China’s abundance of coal needs to be put to good use for both its own energy security and that of the world, the nation’s premier said, according to a report by the official Xinhua News Agency.

During a tour of Hebei province that also took in a farm visit and comments on food supplies, Li Keqiang reiterated that China must prevent a repeat of the power outages that struck the economy in the autumn. He also said that the period of peak demand over the hotter summer months will require the release of new coal mining capacity.
