US Hits China for Oppressing Religion in Xinjiang, Hong Kong

The US condemned China’s policies toward religious minorities, including the mass internment of Muslims in the Xinjiang region and a crackdown on religious members of Hong Kong’s pro-democracy movement, in a new report underscoring the human rights divide between the two nations. 

In its annual report on global religious freedom issued on Thursday, the State Department repeated accusations that China has committed “genocide and crimes against humanity” against ethnic Uyghur Muslims and other minorities. China has repeatedly denied those assertions.
