Fortescue’s Forrest Urges BHP, Rio to Follow Green Action

  • Iron ore exporter plans to have net-zero emissions by 2040
  • Company plans to become major producer of green hydrogen

Billionaire Andrew Forrest, who last week said he would return to helm iron ore giant Fortescue Metals Group Ltd., says his sector must lead the way to a greener future. 

The Perth-based billionaire, widely known as Twiggy, has an ambitious target to turn his company into a net-zero emitter by 2040, including the so-called scope 3 emissions from customers. He encouraged fellow miners including Rio Tinto Plc, BHP Group and Vale SA to follow that ambition.
