Australia’s richest person Andrew Forrest has urged the nation’s new government to go far beyond campaign pledges on climate action and commit to deeper short-term cuts to greenhouse gas emissions.

The Labor party, which is taking power for the first time in nearly a decade, had offered relatively modest policy upgrades though may now respond to the strong election performance of the Green party and climate-focused independent lawmakers who advocate more ambitious goals.
