Duke’s Coach K Was Paid Nearly $14 Million in 2020

Tax form shows the now-retired basketball icon’s compensation package at $13.7 million in the calendar year, outpacing the school’s chief investment officer.

Duke University’s now-retired basketball coach Michael Krzyzewski was the school’s highest-paid employee in 2020, with $13.7 million in compensation, according to its most recent tax filing.

His compensation included roughly $1.3 million in deferred pay that was reported in a prior tax form.  The document encompasses the 2020-21 school year and salaries are awarded by calendar year. Krzyzewski retired earlier in this year after leading the Blue Devils for more than four decades. Duke lost in the NCAA Final Four to rival University of North Carolina.
