Five longtime executives from the traditional commodities industry have started a private equity firm focused on investing in renewable energy companies and projects.

Green Rock Energy Partners LLC, whose founders include Andrew Kelleher, formerly head of Glencore Plc’s U.S. oil group, plans to back projects that make renewable products including diesel fuel and fertilizer, the firm said Wednesday in a statement. Green Rock expects to make investments between $5 million and $20 million.
