Spain’s Ex-King Loses Bid for Immunity in Lover’s Spy Claims

  • Former partner says he harassed, intimidated her and children
  • Ex-king is yet to decide whether to appeal London ruling

Spain’s former king, who abdicated in 2014 amid a corruption scandal, lost his battle for immunity in a U.K. court over allegations he harassed and spied on his ex-lover.

Juan Carlos de Borbon Y Borbon is no longer entitled to “sovereign” immunity, Judge Matthew Nicklin said in a ruling Thursday. While he remains a member of the royal family, there can only be one king, the judge ruled.
