German Finance Minister Christian Lindner called for a gradual retreat from expansive fiscal policy, pledging to comply with European Union limits on government borrowing again by 2030.

“We must enable self-sustaining economic growth in this country and at the same time lead the state out of debt,” Lindner said Tuesday in a speech to the lower house of parliament in Berlin.
