The British Broadcasting Corp. will temporarily suspend the work of its journalists and support staff inside Russia, after the country passed legislation that it said “appears to criminalize the process of independent journalism.”

“Our journalists in Ukraine and around the world will continue to report on the invasion of Ukraine,” Director-General Tim Davie said in a statement on Friday. The organization’s Russian language news service will continue to operate from outside the country.
