The White House is discussing with other countries and energy companies how to avoid shortages of natural gas and other fuels in the event Russia invades Ukraine, a spokeswoman said, including temporary increases in production.

“We are working with countries and companies to ensure the supply and mitigate against price shocks affecting the American people, Europe and the global economy,” the principal deputy White House press secretary, Karine Jean-Pierre, told reporters on Monday.
