U.S. President Joe Biden and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy talked about new ways to bolster Ukraine’s economy during a call on Thursday. The American leader will also host German Chancellor Olaf Scholz next month to discuss the situation with Ukraine amid questions over Germany’s resolve to stand firm against Russia.

Russia on Thursday criticized proposals that broadly rejected its demands that the alliance close the door to Ukraine’s potential NATO membership and roll back forces from former Soviet states. Russia left the door open to further talks.
