President Joe Biden’s bid to push voting rights legislation through a divided Senate collapsed Wednesday as two key Democrats broke with their party to squash the bill’s chances.

With Biden’s first year in office bogged down by the persistent coronavirus and inflation, Democrats are starting an already difficult mid-term election year the same way they ended 2021 -- in a standoff with Senators Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema over the best path for the country.
