BP, Woodside Studying Carbon Capture for Key Australia Gas Hub

  • Plan would collect emissions from various industrial sources
  • Projects are accelerating as nations set new climate goals

BP Plc, Woodside Petroleum Ltd. and Japanese industrial giants are exploring the deployment of carbon capture and storage technology to help lower emissions at a key Australian gas hub.

The studies with Japan Australia LNG -- a joint venture between Mitsubishi Corp. and Mitsui & Co. Ltd. -- will consider the development of a multi-user project near Karratha in Western Australia that would collect emissions from a number of sources and store them in offshore reservoirs.
