The Covid-19 pandemic could cost 174 million travel and tourism jobs this year, according to an updated estimate from the industry’s main global body, which warned of a “total collapse” without more aid.

While jarring, the latest figures from the World Travel & Tourism Council marks a 12% improvement from the previous warning that 197 million posts could be wiped out. The group cited a return of domestic travel in China, where flying has come back to 2019 levels, as the main driver of the change.
