The coronavirus appeared to be depressing in-person turnout in states persisting in holding primary elections on Tuesday, changing the nature of what had been a high-interest 2020 Democratic election. But officials said they hoped early and mail-in balloting would make up the difference.

A dramatic overnight court fight ended with Ohio postponing its primary until June, but Arizona, Florida and Illinois held their primaries as scheduled on Tuesday.
