The British prime minister’s lawyers promised a Scottish court he will obey a law that forces him to postpone Brexit if he can’t reach a deal. Hours later, however, Boris Johnson tweeted that doesn’t mean there will be a delay.

At a hearing in Edinburgh on Friday, Johnson’s attorneys pledged to seek an extension to the Brexit negotiations if he fails to reach a deal with the European Union, contradicting his vow last month to die in a ditch rather than seek another delay.
