Hong Kong Stocks Rise on Report Government May Ban Face Masks

Hong Kong stocks reversed losses on speculation that the government may ban face masks at public gatherings as a way to deter protesters.

The Hang Seng Index closed 0.3% higher, reversing a loss of as much as 0.9%. Local news channel TVB reported that the government will use the Emergency Regulations Ordinance to enact the ban after a special meeting of the city’s Executive Council on Friday, citing people it didn’t identify.
