Liberty Global Prepares to Sell Satellite-TV Business

  • Eastern European unit was excluded from asset sale to Vodafone
  • Liberty Global is scaling back on continent to focus on U.K.

Liberty Global Plc is preparing to sell its satellite business in eastern Europe, according to a person familiar with the matter, as it focuses on cable networks in wealthier western markets.

UPC Direct-to-Home broadcasts to 826,900 subscribers in Hungary, the Czech Republic, Romania and Slovakia. Analysts at HSBC have valued the business at $114 million, or six times estimated 2018 earnings.
