Online sales in U.K. increase to a record as retailers take the hit

From electronics chain Maplin to department store House of Fraser, the list of British retailers falling victim to internet competition is rising. Figures published Thursday underscored their plight. Online spending surged 20 percent in the year through May and now accounts for a record 18 percent of all sales.
