Central Banks Are Turning to Twitter

Bank Indonesia’s following tops that of the Federal Reserve and the European Central Bank

Indonesia’s central bank has more followers on Twitter than any other monetary authority, beating out the Banco de Mexico, Federal Reserve, European Central Bank and Reserve Bank of India. Bank Indonesia, which has about 626,000 Twitter followers, says it made a decision to adopt a more social media friendly voice to reach out to the country’s large millennial population. The bank’s feed ranges from the serious, exchange rates and inflation, to the more lighthearted, such as music videos and photos of food.
