The District of Columbia, along with the states of Washington and New York, may have the artsiest economies in the U.S.

That’s according to the Commerce Department’s first release of data on how much arts and culture contribute to the economies of all 50 states and the District of Columbia. The report on Tuesday showed that arts and cultural activities accounted for 8.4 percent of the capital’s economic value-added in 2015, followed by 7.9 percent for Washington state and 7.8 percent for New York state.
