More Than a Half-Million New Pilots Needed by 2036

Qantas Airways is trying help by building a $16 million training school in Australia

The global shortage of new pilots may finally be getting some much needed help, albeit a small amount, thanks to a training school being set up by Qantas Airways Ltd. The Australian airline will invest as much as A$20 million ($16 million) in the school, which will open in 2019 and train as many as 500 pilots a year once fully operational. Demand for new pilots worldwide is expected to be over 630,000 by 2036, with the Asia-Pacific region alone requiring more than a quarter of a million, according to Boeing Co.
