Global Auto Sales to Hit Record, No Thanks to North America

Light-vehicle receipts are forecast to rise to 97.3 million this year

Global sales of cars and light trucks will rise 2.1 percent to a record 97.3 million vehicles in 2018, despite a second consecutive annual drop in North America, according to an LMC Automotive forecast. “Perhaps if we did see a bit more strength in the economy, that negative 1 percent could disappear, and it could be flat or slightly up,” Pete Kelly, an LMC managing director, said of North America’s projected decline. “But at the moment, we’re assuming it will be down a little.”
