While the U.K.’s economy expanded last year, it appears to be lagging behind most of the G-7

The U.K. economy ended 2017 on a stronger-than-expected note, but it’s moving at a pedestrian pace given the global acceleration that’s taking place. Full-year growth of 1.8 percent was the weakest in five years, with consumers and companies feeling the repercussions of the 2016 vote to the leave the European Union. While the economy has performed better than some predicted before the vote, Britain has failed to latch on to a global upswing that’s propelling its Group of Seven peers.
