S&P 500 Bears Are Back

Technical indicator flashes strongest ‘fear’ signal since August

Bloomberg’s Fear/Greed Indicator, an oscillator based on the ratio of buying strength to selling strength, is flashing its strongest ‘fear’ signal since late August. The last time this emerged, the S&P 500 Index dipped below its 50-day moving average, however the move was followed by a recovery of more than 7 percent. If history is a guide, some short-term pain could be ahead for stock bulls, but their patience may reap rewards soon enough.
