Google, Facebook, Twitter Asked to Appear at Second Senate Panel

  • Russian meddling, extremists’ use of social media among topics
  • House and Senate intelligence panels also holding hearings

Facebook Finds Itself at Center of Russia Investigation

A Senate panel wants to be the first to question executives from Facebook Inc., Twitter Inc. and Alphabet Inc.’s Google about Russian meddling in last year’s presidential election.

Senator Lindsey Graham, chairman of a judiciary subcommittee, said Wednesday that he invited representatives of the three companies to a hearing scheduled for Oct. 31 -- a day before Senate and House intelligence panels question officials from social media companies.

Graham, a South Carolina Republican, said he wants to discuss Russian election interference, the use of the companies’ networks by extremist groups and whether there needs to be new laws regulating social media.
