Toyota's U.S. Sales Beat Ford Every Month in Third Quarter

General Motors still holds the top spot

Toyota Motor Corp. sold more light vehicles in the U.S. than competitor Ford Motor Co. for the third straight month in September, though its lead narrowed as Ford boosted its deliveries to fleet customers by 25 percent. Detroit rival General Motors Co., which has held the top spot every month this year except May, held onto the U.S. sales crown as its crossover deliveries surged 43 percent amid hurricane replacement demand and a strengthening economy.
