‘Wolf Warrior 2’ Powers Best China Box-Office Gain Since 2015

Local action movie is country's biggest hit ever

China’s box-office sales in August jumped 70 percent from a year earlier to 6.9 billion yuan ($1 billion), the biggest monthly gain since 2015, according to Chinese movie database Maoyan. “Wolf Warrior 2,” the highest-grossing title in China’s cinema history, drove the increase. The film, starring and directed by martial artist Wu Jing, grossed 5.1 billion yuan as of Aug. 31, the data show.
