Marchionne Is Betting Big on Rugged Jeep to Steer Fiat

The CEO predicts the brand could eventually deliver 7 million units a year

Sergio Marchionne sees big growth ahead for the Jeep brand that paces U.S. sales for Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV. The Italian-American automaker is forecasting Jeep’s global sales to jump about 30 percent next year to 2 million vehicles, and Marchionne predicts the brand could eventually deliver 7 million units a year as appetite for SUVs surges worldwide. To reach that projection, new models like the planned Wagoneer and a pickup would have to combine with existing models to sell about 50 percent more vehicles than what all of Fiat Chrysler delivered last year.
