Calm Asia Summer Turns to Volatility on Missile Threat

South Korea sees greatest jump in expectations for swings

Expectations for swings in stock prices are increasing across Asia as tension between the U.S. and North Korea grow. As traders rush for protection in the options market, Friday is likely to see further moves higher in volatility gauges after the CBOE Volatility Index climbed to the highest since last year’s U.S. election. Similar measures in India, Japan, Hong Kong and South Korea are up more than 20 percent in the past four sessions, prior to the start of the final trading day of the week.
