Tech, media billionaires to mingle with White House couple
Attendees praise less regulation, criticize visa policy
Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump are headed to the Sun Valley conference hosted by Allen & Co., according to a person familiar with the matter, giving technology and media moguls a chance to mix and mingle with the White House couple.
Kushner, Donald Trump’s senior adviser and son-in-law, and his wife, the president’s daughter and assistant, will pay their own way to attend the annual confab in the Idaho resort town, said the person, who asked not to be identified discussing private plans.
The pair are likely to hear a mix of praise and criticism of the Trump administration’s policies from their fellow attendees. In an interview late Tuesday, Discovery Communications Inc. Chief Executive Officer David Zaslav said the president’s looser regulatory approach would benefit business and encourage more dealmaking. But Sam Altman, head of the influential startup incubator Y Combinator, criticized Trump for moving to void a rule providing visas for foreign-company founders, saying “it would be very bad for American innovation.”
The sojourn out West also gives Kushner and Ivanka Trump a chance to step away from a tumultuous scene in Washington, where Donald Trump Jr. is under scrutiny following revelations that he was willing to accept help from the Russian government for his father’s presidential campaign.
