For the first time ever Swiss travelers spent more overseas than foreigners did while visiting Switzerland, and that’s due to the strong franc, according to the Federal Statistics Office. In 2016, Swiss tourists forked out 16.3 billion francs ($17 billion) on vacations abroad, while incoming visitors spent only 16 billion, resulting in a so-called tourism balance of payments deficit of 252 million francs, according to preliminary data.
