Euro-Area Inflation Seen Slowing to Weakest This Year: Chart

The European Central Bank’s goal of inflation below but close to 2 percent is about to move further into the distance. Data this week are likely to show that consumer-price growth slowed to 1.3 percent in June, the weakest in six months, as energy costs slumped. With core inflation hovering around a mere 1 percent, policy makers will feel little pressure to step up discussions about an exit from unconventional stimulus -- expected by economists to take place in earnest in September.
