Family Outings to Attract the Most Spending on Father's Day

U.S. shoppers are expected to spend almost $135 on average to celebrate dads this year, according to the National Retail Federation’s annual survey. The biggest category of spending will be special outings, tickets to events and meals. Greeting cards are the most common gift, purchased by 64 percent of shoppers. Overall, Americans are expected to spend a total of $15.5 billion this year for Father’s Day, the highest in the survey’s 15-year history. That’s still less than the record $23.6 billion the NRF projected shoppers would spend last month for Mother’s Day.
