British Consumers Feel the Strain From Rising Inflation: Chart

The Great British consumer finally ran out of steam in the first quarter as the strain from quickening inflation began to tell, figures Thursday are expected to show. Economists forecast household spending rose just 0.3 percent, less than half the pace of the previous quarter, after retail sales posted their biggest decline in seven years. It would represent the worst performance since the end of 2014, a worrying development for an economy that relies on consumption.
