Carney's Prediction of Consumer Pain Is in Little Doubt: Chart

Bank of England Governor Mark Carney has warned that U.K. consumers are in for a challenging time, and economists expect further evidence of the worsening squeeze next week. Consumer-price inflation probably accelerated to 2.6 percent in April, the fastest since 2013, while basic wage growth slowed for a fourth month to 2.1 percent. That’s pinching the wallets of households that have been the driver of economic momentum, although the Bank of England says real earnings growth will strengthen after this year.
