RBC Hires Jaime Arrastia for Global Consumer Deals

Royal Bank of Canada has hired Jaime Arrastia to expand its global consumer investment banking business, according to people familiar with the matter.

Arrastia has joined RBC as managing director to lead the bank’s European consumer and global beverages efforts, the people said, asking not to be identified because the matter is private. He will also help boost the coverage of North American food and beverages sectors, the people said.

Arrastia has more than two decades of investment banking experience, having previously worked as chairman of consumer and retail investment banking in Europe, the Middle East and Africa for Barclays Plc. Before that, he led Citigroup Inc.’s consumer investment banking practice for EMEA.

A representative for RBC declined to comment.

Arrastia is the latest in a number of changes to RBC’s consumer team. Last year, the bank hired Andrew van der Vord as vice chairman and global co-head of consumer and retail, and Erwin Van Der Voort also for consumer and retail M&A. Both men had previously worked at from Credit Suisse Group AG. Marco Habert joined from Deutsche Bank AG to lead RBC’s global coverage of household and personal care.
