Macron Rebuffs Rotonde Critics, Says He Doesn’t Assume Victory

Macron Expected to Win Second Round

French presidential candidate Emmanuel Macron pushed back against criticism of a dinner he held with his campaign team at La Rotonde restaurant in Paris after the first round of voting, saying he has never assumed that he will be the eventual victor in the race.

“I’ve never considered it a given that anything is won,” he said to cameras near Paris. “If I was very proud to celebrate this first round despite peevish commentators, it’s because I was ahead of Marine Le Pen. Now I’ll continue to fight.”
