The upward trend in U.K. consumers’ inflation expectations has paused in recent months, and even reversed somewhat for the longer-term outlook. This could mean households expect the currency-driven surge in inflation to end sooner than the Bank of England does. While the moves may be “normal fluctuations,” a sustained decline “could strengthen the argument of those monetary policy makers leaning towards keeping bank rate unchanged,” according to Citigroup.
