Swiss Alpine Traffic at 22-Year Low Still Exceeds Target: Chart

Truck traffic via the Swiss Alps fell to a 22 year low in 2016, with the number of crossings declining below 1 million for the first time since 1994. That’s the same year voters passed the so-called Alps Initiative to reduce Alpine transit and protect the environment. Because of that plebiscite, a 650,000 limit comes into force in 2018.
