Sears Pushes Back on Reports That It Has Dropped Trump Productsby
Company says hundreds of items are still available on website
Controversy follows Nordstrom’s split with Ivanka Trump
Sears Holdings Corp., responding to reports that it has stopped offering Trump products, said that hundreds of the items are still available on its website through third-party sellers.
Though the company’s e-commerce marketplace did remove “a very small number of Trump products,” both Donald and Ivanka Trump-branded merchandise remains on its site, the retailer said on Monday. News headlines suggesting that Sears or its Kmart chain have removed Trump “do not do justice to our business or this specific brand of products that we offer through our marketplace sellers,” spokesman Chris Brathwaite said in a blog post.
“We, like all retailers, constantly add and remove products from our offerings,” he said. “But, any fair observer who searches for Trump or Ivanka Trump on Sears.com would find hundreds of products available for purchase.”
Sears, which doesn’t offer the merchandise in its brick-and-mortar stores, was pulled into the controversy following Nordstrom Inc.’s split with Ivanka Trump last week. The department-store chain said it would stop selling the first daughter’s brand this season, citing poor sales. The move drew a rebuke from President Donald Trump on Twitter, where he said she had been treated unfairly by Nordstrom.
