Mizuho Financial Group Inc. hired J.T. Deignan, who spent more than a decade at UBS Group AG, as managing director for equity capital markets.
Deignan will be in charge of the real estate sector, Tokyo-based Mizuho said Wednesday in an e-mailed statement. The bank also added Mariano Gaut, a former Citigroup Inc. banker, as a managing director in equity capital markets. The two will focus on helping companies raise money by selling stocks and convertible securities, the bank said.
Mizuho has been investing in its business outside Japan, adding bankers in the U.S. who trade stocks, underwrite bond offerings and advise on mergers. In 2014, the firm hired Matthew DeSalvo from CRT Capital Group LLC as head of U.S. equities and Derek Dillon, formerly of Bank of America Corp., as head of equity capital markets.
Deignan joined UBS in 2002 and left in July, according to Financial Industry Regulatory Authority records. He worked on deals including the restructuring of General Growth Properties Inc., according to the statement.
Gaut worked on deals for Allergan Plc and Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd., among others, the bank said. He worked at Citigroup from 2003 through July, Finra records show.
