Junk Bond Index Set for Best Annual Return Since 2009: Chart

After a rough ride in 2015 thanks to the collapse in commodity prices, investors in U.S. high-yield debt saw their luck turn this year. Junk bonds have returned over 16 percent so far in 2016 as oil rebounded, based on a Bloomberg Barclays index. That’s the most since 2009, when gains exceeded 50 percent as prices of risky corporate debt recovered after the credit crisis.
